Dear Colleagues,

We are nearing the 13th and 14th of August 2013, which marks the inaugural International Conference of Attachment and Trauma Informed Practice™.

Journey to Recovery is a collaborative initiative between Lighthouse Institute and our community partners that provides practitioners, policy makers, researchers, carers and survivors of trauma an opportunity to come together, to share experiences and reflect on practice and research into recovery-oriented approaches from an attachment and trauma informed perspective.

In recent years, through new technologies and research into the brain and the psycho-social development of human beings, we have gained a greater understanding of the importance of Attachment and Trauma Informed Practice in supporting the recovery of people with trauma histories. These findings have been backed by over 100 years of research and practice in the fields of psychology and psychiatry, community psychology, neuroscience and clinical practice from around the world.

As a ‘Knowledge Centre’ that works in collaboration with organisations and learning institutions around the world to advance the field of attachment and trauma informed practice through community debate, education, training, consultancy and research, Lighthouse Institute is excited to bring this historical event to Australia.

Many of the world leaders in attachment and trauma informed research and practice will be participating in this exciting event. Presenters and Panel Members include:

  • Bernie Geary (Principal Commissioner for Children and Young People Victoria)
  • Dr Michael Merzenich (Professor Emeritus of Neuroscience at the University of California, San Francisco, Leading Neuroscientist specialising in Neuroplasticity)
  • Professor Patrick McGorry (Former Australian of the Year, Orygen Youth Health Research Centre Executive Director)
  • Dr Cathy Kezelman (Trauma Survivor, Medical Doctor, President of Adults Surviving Child Abuse)
  • Patrick Tomlinson (Child Trauma Expert and Trauma Informed Systems Consultant)
  • Deborra-lee Furness (Internationally acclaimed actress as well as a passionate supporter of children and defender of their human rights across the globe)
  • Moira Kelly AO (Humanitarian, Ambassador of Carers Victoria, Founder of Children First Foundation,  Founder of Global Gardens of Peace)

I encourage anyone interested in attachment and trauma informed practice to register now to avoid disappointment.

I look forward to seeing you at the Conference, and learning from your experiences in this very important field of research and practice.
